NOMINATION PETITIONS DUE DECEMBER 1

CEA Secretary, CEA Treasurer, Ethnic Minority Director At-Large, Ethnic Minority Alternate At-Large, and County Director positions open in 2019

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 election for state delegate positions to the NEA Representative Assembly (NEA RA) and CEA-Retired delegates to the CEA RA. Nomination procedure The official nomination form is at cea.org/members/elections and must be filled out and submitted electronically. Members may nominate themselves or other members in accordance with eligibility requirements explained online. To be eligible, all nomination forms must be submitted electronically by December 1, 2018. Eligibility requirements All members, regardless of ethnic minority status or non-ethnic minority status, are subject to any limitations in the NEA and CEA Constitutions and Bylaws. They also must meet all eligibility requirements for current membership in the association and in the class and category to be represented. For example, Active members eligible for Category 1 positions cannot run or be nominated for NEA-Retired At-Large positions; annual Members interested in becoming candidates for several open governance positions must submit official nomination petitions to CEA. Petitions must be sent by certified mail, return-receipt requested, and postmarked no later than Saturday, December 1, 2018, for eligible nominees to be certified as candidates by the CEA Elections Committee. Up for election in 2019 are the positions of CEA Secretary, CEA Treasurer, Ethnic Minority Director At-Large, Ethnic Minority Alternate At-Large, and 15 County Director seats on the CEA Board of Directors. The three-year terms for CEA Secretary, CEA Treasurer, and the position of CEA Ethnic Minority Director At-Large and Alternate will be filled by election at the CEA Representative Assembly (RA) in May. Certified candidates are eligible to speak twice preceding the CEA RA in 2019. Directors seats open in five of the eight counties represented on the board. Listed below are the length of terms available and the names and teaching districts of the current County Directors whose positions expire June 30, 2019. in these counties are eligible for nomination; however, CEA Bylaws prohibit County Directors employed by the same town or school district from serving concurrently. Members are currently ineligible for nomination in the following towns in multi-director counties: Fairfield County: Greenwich; Hartford County: Manchester, Newington, East Hartford, West Suffield; New London County: Stonington; New Haven County: Amity. Nomination petitions CEA Bylaws require that all nomination petitions for CEA officers, CEA Ethnic Minority Directors, and County Directors be signed by at least 25 active members; be received at CEA by certified mail, return-receipt requested; and be postmarked on or before SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2018 . Nomination petitions must specify the name and qualifications of the

person being nominated and the position being sought. County Director candidate statements must not exceed 175 words; all other candidate statements must not exceed 250 words. All must be submitted in paper and electronic format to the executive assistant to the president. (Members must indicate on the official CEA nomination form which County Director position they are seeking.) The CEA Elections Committee will meet as soon as possible after December 1 to review all nomination petition forms and certify candidates for open positions. All nominees who submit petitions will be notified about their status as a candidate following this meeting. Information on nominees will be published in a spring issue of the CEA Advisor . Balloting for County Directors, if necessary, will be conducted within counties by first- class mail in late March.

POSITIONS OPEN FOR NOMINATION CEA may be eligible to elect up to 28 state delegates to the NEA RA

in 2019. Here are descriptions of the open positions: Category 1 At-Large: 15 positions (Term: two years)

Active classroom teachers (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) in local affiliates are eligible for these positions. Category 1 At-Large/Ethnic Minority Concerns: Four positions (Term: two years) Active classroom teachers (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) in local affiliates are eligible for these positions. Membership Units: Eight interim positions from specific Membership Units (Term: one year) Only active members (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) who teach in a local CEA affiliate in one of the eight Membership Units may be nominated for these interim positions. The eight open units are A, F, H, L, M, N, P, and Q. Category 2 At-Large: One position (Term: two years) Nominees for the Category 2 At-Large position must be Active members (Membership Type AC-1) in supervisor/administrator positions or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) who are no longer teaching—but only if they are not also NEA-Retired members. (NEA Life membership is a special category terminated in 1973.) Members with Active Life Memberships who are not retired from teaching are eligible for Category 2. NEA-Retired Members for Life (Membership Type RT-7) or annual Retired members (Membership Type RT-8) ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CATEGORY 2.
