NOMINATION PETITIONS DUE DECEMBER 1 CEA Secretary, CEA Treasurer, NEA Director Alternate, and County Director positions open in 2022

Members interested in becoming candidates for several open governance positions must submit official nomination petitions to CEA. Petitions must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, December 1, 2021, for eligible nominees to be certified as candidates by the CEA Elections Committee. Up for election in 2022 are the positions of CEA Secretary, CEA Treasurer, NEA Director Alternate, and 13 County Director seats on the CEA Board of Directors. The three-year terms for CEA Secretary, CEA Treasurer, and the position of NEA Director Alternate will be filled by election at the CEA Representative Assembly (CEA RA) in May. Certified candidates are eligible to speak twice at county forums preceding the CEA RA in 2022. COUNTY DIRECTOR VACANCIES There are 13 CEA Board of Directors seats open in five of the eight counties represented on the Board. Listed at right are the length of terms available and the names and teaching districts of the current County Directors whose CEA Bylaws require that all nomination petitions for CEA officers, NEA Director Alternate, and County Directors be signed by at least 25 active members, received at CEA, and postmarked on or before DECEMBER 1, 2021. Nomination petitions must specify the name and qualifications of the person being positions expire June 30, 2022. NOMINATION PETITIONS positions to the NEA Representative Assembly (NEA RA) and CEA-Retired delegates to the NEA RA and the CEA Representative Assembly (CEA RA). Nomination procedure The official nomination form is at cea.org/elections and must be filled out and submitted electronically. Members may nominate themselves or other members in accordance with eligibility requirements. To be eligible for nomination, candidates must have their nomination forms submitted electronically on or before December 1, 2021. Eligibility requirements All members, regardless of ethnic minority status or non-ethnic minority status, are subject to any limitations in the NEA and CEA Constitutions and Bylaws. They also must meet all eligibility requirements for current membership in the Association and in the class and category to be represented. For example, Active members eligible for Category 1 positions cannot run or be nominated for NEA-Retired At-Large positions; annual NEA-Retired members and NEA-Retired Members for Life are eligible to be nominated for or to run for NEA-Retired At-Large positions only. REQUESTING A NOMINATION FORM County Director, CEA officer, and NEA Director Alternate nomination and petition forms are available from Mary- Pat Soucy, executive assistant to the president, at CEA’s Hartford office. To request a form, contact her at 1-800-842-4316, 860-525-5641, or marypats@cea.org . Information on nominees will be published in a spring issue of the CEA Advisor . Balloting for County Directors, if necessary, will be conducted within counties by first-class mail in late March. nominated and the position being sought. County Director candidate statements must not exceed 175 words; all other candidate statements must not exceed 250 words. All must be submitted in paper and electronic format to the Executive Assistant to the President. (Members must indicate on the official CEA nomination form which County Director position they are seeking.) The CEA Elections Committee will meet as soon as possible after December 1 to review all nomination petition forms and to certify candidates for open positions. All nominees who submit petitions will be notified about their status as a candidate following this meeting.

COUNTY DIRECTOR OPENINGS Fairfield County Open are 4 three-year full terms and 1 one-year term. • James Allan - Shelton • Mia Dimbo - Bridgeport • Vacancy (3) Hartford Open are 2 three-year full terms and 1 two-year term. • Dan Hart – Southington • Glenn Spencer – Bloomfield (termed out) • Vacancy New London Open is 1 three-year full term. • Seth Galante – Ledyard (serving a one-year interim) New Haven Open are 3 three-year terms. • George Flaherty - Waterbury • Tara Little – Region 16 (termed out) • Laura Clark – Wallingford (serving a one-year interim) Litchfield Open is 1 two-year term. • Beth Foulds – Torrington (serving a one-year interim) All active CEA members teaching in these counties are eligible for nomination; however, CEA Bylaws prohibit County Directors employed by the same town or school district from serving concurrently. Members are currently ineligible for nomination in the following towns in multi-director counties: • Fairfield County: Danbury, CES, Stratford • Hartford County: CREC, Newington, West Hartford • New London County: Stonington • New Haven County: Amity

POSITIONS OPEN FOR NOMINATION CEA may be eligible to elect up to 26 state delegates in 2022. Here are descriptions of the open positions: • Category 1 At-Large: Five positions (one-year interim) • Category 1 At-Large/Ethnic Minority Concerns: Four positions (one-year interim) Active classroom teachers (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) in local affiliates are eligible for these positions. • Membership Units: 17 positions from specific Membership Units: (two-year terms) Only active members (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) who teach in a local CEA affiliate in one of the 17 Membership Units may be nominated for these positions.

The 17 open units are A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P & Q. • CEA-Retired NEA RA delegates: Six positions (two-year terms)*
