NOMINATION PETITIONS DUE DECEMBER 1 CEA and NEA Director positions open in 2020

TOLLAND COUNTY Open is 1 three-year term • Peter Borofsky – Vernon (serving a two-year interim term) All active CEA members teaching in these counties are eligible for nomination; however, CEA Bylaws prohibit County Directors employed by the same town or school district from serving concurrently. Members are currently ineligible for nomination in the following towns in multi-director counties: Fairfield County: Shelton, CES, Bridgeport, Darien, Stamford New Haven County: Region 16, Amity, Waterbury Nomination petitions CEA Bylaws require that all nomination petitions for CEA officers, CEA Ethnic Minority Directors, and County Directors be signed by at least 25 active members; be received at CEA by certified mail, return-receipt requested; and be postmarked before SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2019 . Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020 election for state delegate positions to the NEA Representative Assembly (NEA RA) and CEA-Retired delegates to the CEA RA. Nomination procedure The official nomination form is at cea.org/members/elections and must be filled out and submitted electronically. Members may nominate themselves or other members in accordance with eligibility requirements explained online. To be eligible, all nomination forms must be submitted electronically by December 1, 2019. Eligibility requirements All members, regardless of ethnic minority status or non-ethnic minority status, are subject to any limitations in the NEA and CEA Constitutions and Bylaws. They also must meet all eligibility requirements for current membership in the Association and in the class and category to be represented. For example, Active members eligible for Category 1 positions cannot run or be nominated for NEA-Retired NEA-Retired Members for Life are eligible to be nominated for or to run for only NEA-Retired At-Large positions. Nomination forms are available at cea.org/members/elections . At-Large positions; annual NEA-Retired members and Members interested in becoming certified candidates for several open governance positions must submit official nomination petitions to CEA. Petitions must be sent by certified mail, return-receipt requested, and postmarked before Sunday, December 1, 2019, for eligible nominees to be certified as candidates by the CEA Elections Committee. There is a provision in the CEA Bylaws that allows nominations from the floor at the CEA RA. Detailed information can be found in the CEA Standing Rules and Bylaws. Up for election in 2020 are two positions for NEA Directors, one for a three-year term and the other for a one-year interim term. Also open is NEA Director Alternate, a one-year interim term. There may also be openings for an Ethnic Minority Director At-Large and Ethnic Minority Director At-Large Alternate. Any open positions for the director positions mentioned above will be elected at the CEA RA in May 2020. Certified candidates are eligible to speak twice at the two county forums preceding the RA. County Director vacancies There are eight CEA Board of Directors seats open in six of the

eight counties represented on the Board. Listed below are the terms available and the names and teaching districts of the current County Directors whose positions expire June 30, 2020. County Directors FAIRFIELD COUNTY Open are 3 positions, 2 three-year terms and 1 two-year interim term • Rae Baczek – Greenwich (termed out) • Marion Richard – Fairfield (serving a one-year interim) • Vacancy (two-year interim) MIDDLESEX COUNTY Open is 1 two-year full interim term • Joe Holloway – East Hampton (serving a one-year interim) NEW LONDON Open is 1 three-year term, and 1 two-year interim term • Bruce Yarnall – Mystic • Vacancy (two-year interim) NEWHAVEN COUNTY Open is 1 three-year term • Diane Marinaro – Hamden (serving a one-year interim) WINDHAM COUNTY Open is 1 three-year term • Nicola Able – Killingly (serving a two-year interim)

the name and qualifications of the person being nominated and the position being sought. County Director candidate statements must not exceed 180 words; all other candidate statements must not exceed 250 words. All must be submitted in paper and electronic format to the Executive Assistant to the President. (Members must indicate on the official CEA nomination form which County Director position they are seeking.) The CEA Elections Committee will meet as soon as possible after December 1 to review all nomination petition forms and to certify candidates for open positions. All nominees who submit petitions will be notified about their status as a candidate following this meeting. Information on nominees will be published in a spring issue of the CEA Advisor . Balloting for County Directors, if necessary, will be conducted within counties by first- class mail in late March.

POSITIONS OPEN FOR NOMINATION CEA may be eligible to elect up to 24 state delegates to the NEA RA in 2020. Here are descriptions of the open positions: Category 1 At-Large/Ethnic Minority Concerns: one interim position (Term: one-year interim) Active classroom teachers (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) in local affiliates are eligible for these positions. Membership Units: 17 positions from specific Membership Units (Term: two years) Only active members (Membership Type AC-1) or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) who teach in a local CEA affiliate in one of the 17 Membership Units may be nominated for these positions. The 17 open units are A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P & Q.

Category 2 At-Large: One position (Term: two years) Nominees for the Category 2 At-Large position must be Active members (Membership Type AC-1) in supervisor/administrator positions or NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) who are no longer teaching—but only if they are not also NEA-Retired members. (NEA Life membership is a special category terminated in 1973.) Members with Active Life memberships who are not retired from teaching are eligible for Category 2. NEA-Retired Members for Life (Membership Type RT-7) or annual Retired members (Membership Type RT-8) are not eligible for category 2. Retried At-Large Positions (Term: two years) Only NEA-R members who are NEA-Retired Members for Life (NEA-R) (Membership Type RT-7) or annual NEA-Retired (Membership Type RT-8) members are eligible to be nominated for a Retired At-Large position. Only NEA-R members may nominate, vote, or serve as NEA-Retired At-Large delegates. NEA Life members (Membership Type AC-7) who also hold an NEA-Retired membership may nominate, vote, and run for election in the NEA-Retired At-Large category. Membership numbers as of January 15, 2020, will definitively determine open positions.
